For the first time since the tragic death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, appeared at the CID office in Guwahati. She was accompanied by Zubeen’s sister, Pami Borthakur. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will record Garima Garg’s statement as part of the ongoing investigation into the singer’s mysterious demise.

Meanwhile, a senior Assam Police team returned to Guwahati on October 23 after completing their investigation in Singapore. The team, led by CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta and Titabor Co-District SP Tarun Goel, had left for Singapore earlier this week to gather evidence and coordinate with local authorities. During their visit, the officers inspected all locations linked to the case and met several individuals connected to the investigation.

A senior official said that DGP Gupta will brief the media on Friday, sharing details of the Singapore trip and the progress of the probe. The SIT, under Assam Police’s CID, is investigating Zubeen Garg’s death after more than 60 FIRs were registered across the state.

The police team visited the exact place where Garg passed away while swimming on September 19 in Singapore during his visit for the 4th North East India Festival. Cooperation between Assam Police and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) was ensured under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). The SPF has also launched an independent inquiry, and preliminary findings so far have not indicated any foul play. The SPF expects to complete its investigation in approximately three months before submitting a report to the State Coroner.

Assam Police have already questioned 10 of the 11 Assamese expats present on the yacht during the incident. The remaining person is a Singapore citizen. Earlier, several key figures including the festival organiser, Zubeen’s manager, two of his band members, his cousin, and Assam Police officers attached to his security were taken into custody in connection with the case.
