In the ongoing legal proceedings related to the case involving celebrated Assamese singer and music icon Zubeen Garg, members of his family have formally approached Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking urgent judicial intervention to ensure a fair, transparent and time-bound trial.

The appeal, submitted in writing has been jointly signed by Zubeen’s wife Garima Saikia Garg, his sister Dr. Palmee Borthakur, and his uncle Manoj Borthakur. In the letter, the family has requested the government to constitute a Special Public Prosecutor Team dedicated exclusively to handling the case and to facilitate the hearing through a fast-track court, so that delays in the judicial process can be avoided.

The family stated that the developments surrounding the case have been serious in nature, involving complex evidence and sensitive legal matters. Because of this, they believe that the case requires the attention of highly experienced legal professionals capable of presenting the prosecution’s arguments with clarity and precision.
They therefore urged the State Government to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor Team with expertise in handling high-profile and sensitive cases. The letter also mentions that necessary logistical and administrative support should be extended to the prosecution so that the legal process remains smooth, organised and efficient.

The family stated that the goal of this request is not only to strengthen the prosecution but also to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor diluted at any stage of court proceedings.

Another key demand placed before the Chief Minister is that the case be brought under the jurisdiction of a fast-track court. According to the family, this step is essential to prevent prolonged legal delays which may otherwise extend the trauma and uncertainty faced by them.
They expressed hope and faith in the judiciary, stating that the Hon’ble High Court and judicial authorities will take appropriate steps to ensure expeditious delivery of justice.
The family underlined that justice for Zubeen Garg is not only a matter of personal anguish, but also of public concern, given the deep connection the artist shares with the people of Assam and the wider region.

The letter further highlights that the family remains committed to seeking justice strictly through lawful and constitutional channels.

They expressed confidence that the truth will ultimately prevail once the evidence is examined in court in a timely and structured manner.
