Congress leader and President of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, Mira Borthakur Goswami, on Sunday raised concerns over the ongoing discussion surrounding the death of the popular singer-actor Zubeen Garg. She said that the focus should remain on finding the truth behind his death rather than publicizing unnecessary details.
“How did the grounds of arrest related to Zubeen Garg’s death, signed by Sr. Superintendent of Police, C.M.’s Vigilance Cell, Rosie Kalita, become public?” Goswami questioned. “We are only seeking a judicial investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death. We are not concerned about who arranged what at Singapore’s Pan Pacific Hotel or who was present there.”
Goswami said that certain statements included in the police documents, particularly those mentioned in Column 6, are being discussed publicly in a way that shifts attention from the main issue. “The arrest signed by Rosie Kalita and the related statements cannot become a reason to talk about who was with Zubeen Garg the night before his death. Who will testify for him? Truthfully or falsely?” she asked.
She further urged authorities and the public to focus on the core questions: why and how Zubeen Garg lost his life at sea and who was with him on the yacht at the time. “Even after his death, instead of focusing on justice, other details are being publicized, diverting the discussion elsewhere. This is unfortunate,” she said.
Goswami expressed deep concern over the emotional impact of these disclosures, stating that they are causing unnecessary distress and even “making Zubeen Garg’s soul suffer a second time.” She appealed for discretion in handling the sensitive details, emphasizing that while some information, like the grounds of arrest, can be shared publicly, minor details should not overshadow the search for justice.
