A young cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) laid down arms before security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Saturday, marking another step in the ongoing efforts to bring insurgent members back to normal life.
Officials said the surrender came after security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about the movement and presence of an ULFA cadre in the area. Based on these inputs, a joint team of Assam Rifles, Arunachal Pradesh Police, and Assam Police carried out a coordinated operation. The combined effort led to the voluntary surrender of 23-year-old self-styled private Kamal Akhan, also known as Vikas Mohanta, who was associated with the banned outfit.
During the surrender, the cadre handed over a 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, and six rounds of ammunition. Officials said the weapon and ammunition were immediately taken into custody as part of the standard procedure. 
After the surrender, the youth was handed over to the police for necessary legal processes and for his rehabilitation under the existing government guidelines meant for former insurgents. Officials explained that the rehabilitation process aims to help such individuals return to mainstream society and build a stable life.
