Assam is witnessing a wave of grief, protest, and calls for justice following the untimely death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. On Tuesday, over a thousand Congress workers marched through the streets of Goalpara in a candlelight procession, demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the mysterious death of the legendary artist.
The demonstration was led by Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain, who called on the authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Marchers carried candles and chanted slogans such as “Ensure justice for Zubeen Garg’s death” and “Conduct a proper investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death,” reflecting the deep concern among fans and citizens alike.
Addressing the media, Hussain alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was attempting to divert the judicial probe rather than allowing a proper investigation. He suggested that Zubeen Garg’s death was not the result of a simple incident but may have involved a planned conspiracy with multiple individuals. Hussain also accused certain people of giving conflicting statements in an attempt to mislead the public.
“The Congress party firmly opposes such attempts to distort the truth,” Hussain said. “Every person, directly or indirectly linked to Zubeen Garg’s death, must face legal consequences.” He added that the singer’s death has brought the people of Assam together, uniting communities in grief and solidarity.
Meanwhile, two of Zubeen Garg’s personal security officers, identified as Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora, have been suspended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following allegations of financial irregularities. Investigators say digital transactions totaling over Rs 1 crore have been linked to the officers’ accounts.
Meanwhile, the late singer’s musical legacy continues to resonate with fans. His posthumous song Mur Mon from the upcoming film Roi Roi Binale has been released, evoking deep emotions across Assam and beyond. Directed by Rajesh Bhuyan, the film is scheduled to release on October 31, a date personally chosen by Zubeen himself. Fans have described the song as “a voice that refuses to fade” and “Zubeen’s final gift to his people.”
