Thousands of Adivasis gathered in Udalguri today to protest for their rights, fair wages, and recognition as Scheduled Tribes (STs). The protest was organized by the All Assam Tribal Students’ Union (AATSU) and Adivasi Jani Shakti Sanghati. People from different Adivasi communities joined, carrying banners and shouting slogans that echoed across the town.

Protesters raised slogans like, “NST’s dues must be paid, STs must get their rights—otherwise Assam will get heated, this fire is burning, it will burn, BJP government beware, Adivasis, wake up!”

Leaders of AATSU said the government is using Adivasis only as a vote bank and not giving them the rights they deserve. They demanded immediate payment of pending wages, proper land rights, and official recognition of Adivasis as Scheduled Tribes. Many tea garden workers joined the protest, highlighting that they have been struggling with low wages and poor working conditions for decades.

AATSU leaders warned that if the government did not act before the upcoming Assembly elections, it would face serious consequences. They said the community will continue to protest peacefully but firmly until their demands are met.

The Udalguri administration monitored the protest to ensure it remained peaceful. No clashes were reported.
