‘Stop drama, show proof’: Gaurav Gogoi challenges Himanta’s Pakistan remark

If I’m a ‘Pakistan Agent’, Why no case? Gaurav Gogoi fires back at Himanta If I’m a ‘Pakistan Agent’, Why no case? Gaurav Gogoi fires back at Himanta

In a sharp counter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent remarks branding him a “pure Pakistani agent”, Assam Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday questioned why the state government has not filed any case against him if the allegations are true.

“If the Chief Minister is saying I am connected to Pakistan, then why has he not taken any legal action? Why only talk in public meetings and social media?” Gogoi told reporters in Karbi Anglong. He said such rhetoric is aimed solely at creating confusion and “damaging Assam’s dignity at the national level.”

Gaurav Gogoi said that the people of Assam have lost faith in the Chief Minister and his style of governance. Speaking to reporters in Karbi Anglong, Gogoi said that the Chief Minister’s credibility has gone down completely and further added that the state government is only working through fear, pressure and publicity, not through real development.

Gogoi said that people across the state are now openly questioning the decisions and claims made by the Chief Minister. “Nobody believes his words anymore. He speaks every day only to protect his political image, not to solve the problems of the public,” Gogoi said. He also added that the Chief Minister makes many statements without proof which shows his insecurity and fear of losing power. Gogoi said, the ruling government is spending huge amounts on advertisements and promotions while common people continue to suffer due to rising prices, unemployment, and lack of support for farmers and youth. He said that while the BJP claims to be strong, the ground situation shows widespread frustration and anger among citizens. Gogoi also spoke about the political future of the Chief Minister.

He said, “The Chief Minister is scared of losing power. Once Congress comes to power next year, Himanta Biswa Sarma will no longer be Chief Minister. He may even try to run to Singapore along with Tuliram Ronghang.” Gogoi said. He also said that the Congress party is preparing to return to power in Assam and the public mood is slowly shifting. “The people are becoming aware. They know who is working for them and who is working for self-promotion. Power does not last forever. The people of Assam will give their answer at the right time,” he said. Gogoi also attacked the BJP’s “double engine government” slogan and said that important issues like border disputes remain unresolved even after many years of BJP rule.

He said that border areas along Nagaland and Meghalaya are still sensitive and the people living in those regions do not feel fully secure. He also raised allegations that some leaders in the ruling government have misused their positions to acquire land. Gogoi claimed that land in sensitive and tribal regions is being sold to private groups and corporate bodies, which, he said, is very dangerous for the people and for the future of the state. He specifically mentioned Karbi Anglong and said the people there should stay alert and protect their land and rights.

Gogoi also brought up the ongoing investigation into the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He questioned the government’s handling of the matter and asked why Rita Chowdhury and Garima Garg were being called for long hours of questioning. He demanded that the investigation should be fair and transparent, and there should be no political pressure in the process. He also questioned the role of a few individuals associated with the case and asked why their names are being linked to the matter.
