Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan on Tuesday criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the main accused in the Zubeen Garg death case, Shyamkanu Mahanta, popularly known as “Festival Mahanta”. Bhuyan expressed deep concern over the slow pace and lack of direction in the investigation.
Bhuyan said, “Ah, isn’t it just like that! The investigation hasn’t progressed in the right direction, and we are shouting our lungs out, yet nothing seems to happen!” He said the investigation in Zubeen Garg’s death lacks accountability and transparency.
Bhuyan also highlighted Mahanta’s influence and powerful connections. “I had heard about the close relationship between Mohan Bhagwat and Shyamkanu Mahanta’s family. Now, seeing the photo, I’m frankly terrified; so powerful!” he said, suggesting that Mahanta’s reach could be influencing the course of justice in the case.
He further said on what he sees as the concentration of power in the country. “Those who keep track of things know—right now, the country is being run by two people: Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat. Together, they are leading our nation. Who can say otherwise?” Bhuyan questioned the impartiality of investigations into major controversies.
The MP also pointed to other scandals, including alleged financial irregularities at universities, and questioned whether authorities would ever take action. “Shyamkanu’s scandal, the university’s financial scandal—who will investigate? Forget it…” he said.
