The investigation into the mysterious death of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg has taken a serious turn, with two key accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, now placed in 14-day custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Officials confirmed on Wednesday that the move has been sanctioned by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) after both were produced before him under strict security measures.

The hearing was held at the CJM’s residence in Alpana Apartment, Geetanagar, Guwahati, late on Tuesday night. Given the high-profile nature of the case, authorities ensured tight security throughout the proceedings. Police cordons were placed outside the building, and only officials involved in the case were allowed entry. After hearing the plea from the investigating team, the magistrate approved their remand for two weeks.

According to officials, the SIT will use this time to interrogate the two accused, gather evidence, and closely examine the timeline of events that led to the untimely death of the popular singer. Sources said investigators will look into all possible angles, including financial transactions, personal relations, and professional matters connected to the case.

Shyamkanu Mahanta, a well-known name in the cultural and business circuit of Assam, was flown in from Singapore via Delhi on Tuesday before being taken to Guwahati under heavy security. His arrival was kept low profile, but the presence of large numbers of police personnel at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport indicated the sensitivity of the case. Siddharth Sharma, who was closely associated with Zubeen as his manager, was also taken into SIT custody on the same day.
