To ensure road safety and public hygiene, the Supreme Court has directed all States and Union Territories, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and local civic bodies to remove stray cattle and dogs from highways, state roads, and other public places.
The apex court issued strict instructions to clear all National and State Highways of stray cattle, which have become a growing concern for traffic safety. It has asked every State and Union Territory to form special highway patrol teams that will be responsible for catching stray cattle and shifting them to designated shelter homes. The court said these animals must be properly looked after in the shelters and not left to wander on the roads again.
