In New Delhi, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made very serious allegations about the recent Haryana Assembly election. He said that the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worked together to change the real mandate of the people. According to him, the Congress had actually won the Haryana election by a big margin, but the result was changed through what he called “vote chori” (vote theft).
Speaking at a press conference a day before the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi said his team has collected strong evidence to support these claims. He called it a “hydrogen bomb” and said that this is only the beginning. He promised to release more details in the coming days. He also said his team has “100 per cent proof” that nearly 25 lakh votes in Haryana were manipulated, duplicated, or registered in the names of fake voters.
Rahul Gandhi explained that Congress candidates in Haryana had reported unusual things during the campaign and counting stages. He said that their predictions and ground feedback did not match the final results. According to him, similar doubts had come up earlier in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, but this time the party decided to closely study Haryana in detail. He said their findings show that the alleged voter fraud was not just in one or two seats, but across the state and even on a national scale.
Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of ignoring clear signs of wrongdoing. He claimed that the Commission has software that can easily detect duplicate voter entries, but it refused to run it properly when Congress requested. “The Election Commission is helping the BJP,” he said, accusing the poll body of failing its constitutional duty. He added that thousands of BJP supporters voted in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, calling it a direct attack on democracy.
One of the most striking claims made by Rahul Gandhi was about a woman voter. He said that a single voter ID was used 22 times in 10 different polling booths, and the person was registered under multiple names including Seema, Sweety, Saraswati, Rashmi, and Vimla. Rahul Gandhi said that this woman turned out to be a Brazilian model, and demanded to know how such manipulation could happen.
He also said that for the first time in Haryana’s history, postal ballot figures did not match actual votes. Rahul Gandhi shared examples of voters who claimed their names were missing from the rolls. He said over 3.5 lakh voters were deleted from the voter list. He presented a man from Haryana’s Malikpur village who said both he and his wife were removed from the list.
Rahul Gandhi rejected the Election Commission’s explanation that many voter IDs with “house number zero” belonged to homeless people. He said Congress teams checked many such cases on the ground and found that these individuals were living in their homes, and that this was not a mistake but deliberate manipulation.
He also played a video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, in which Saini, before counting day, spoke confidently about a BJP win and said the party had a “system in place.” Rahul Gandhi said this raised suspicion because such confidence suggested foreknowledge of results.
Congress also presented people who said they were voters from Bihar but found their names removed when they tried to vote, and were not allowed to re-register. Rahul Gandhi said the pattern in Haryana shows a systematic plan to change the democratic process.
The Congress leader demanded an independent investigation and said that protecting democracy is above party politics. “This is about the future of India,” he said, adding that no citizen should lose their right to vote.
