Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Priyank Kharge, calling him a “first-class idiot” over his recent remarks about the people of Assam. The Chief Minister said that Kharge, who is the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, had insulted the youth of Assam by claiming that there was “no talent” in the state for the upcoming semiconductor project.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Sarma strongly condemned Priyank Kharge’s statement and said it reflected the Congress party’s attitude towards Assam and the northeastern region. “Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son is a first-class idiot. He has insulted the young generation of Assam by saying that there is no talent in the state for the semiconductor project,” Sarma said angrily.
The Chief Minister further said that the state government is seriously considering taking legal action against Priyank Kharge for his “insulting and irresponsible” comment. “We will look into whether his statement can attract a legal case. Assam’s youth are talented, hardworking, and capable of achieving great things. Nobody should question their ability,” Sarma added. 
The controversy began after Priyank Kharge reportedly commented that Assam did not have the required talent pool for a semiconductor manufacturing unit. His statement drew strong criticism from several quarters, with many calling it “disrespectful” and “ignorant.”
