Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi today took a direct swipe at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and questioned why the chargesheet in the death case of popular singer Zubeen Garg was not released on December 8 as earlier announced. Gogoi suggested that the date may have been pushed because of the Post Malone music concert that took place in Guwahati on the same evening.
In a post shared on his social media account, Gogoi wrote that people in Assam were waiting for December 8 to understand what exactly happened to the late artist. He said that the Chief Minister had himself stated earlier that a Special Investigation Team was formed and the findings would be placed before the public on that day. Gogoi said that instead of an update on the investigation, the Chief Minister was seen giving comments on an international singer performing in Assam.
“For the people of Assam, 8th December meant knowing how our beloved artist late Zubeen Garg died. The Chief Minister of Assam had constituted a Special Investigation Team and said that the justice will be delivered on 8th December. Yet the date for Justice for Zubeen Garg got postponed and Chief Minister of Assam was giving sound bytes on an American artist performing in Assam,” Gogoi said.
Gogoi referred to a national media report and posted its link along with his remarks. The report had quoted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that Assam’s cultural icon would get justice on December 8 and that the investigation report would be submitted by the SIT on the same day. The report also said that the Chief Minister had stated that the truth behind Zubeen Garg’s death would be placed before the people through the chargesheet.
