The administration has announced a major eviction drive in Doboka, targeting illegal settlers in the Jamuna-Moudanga reserved forest area. According to officials, the drive will focus on removing unauthorized occupants who have built houses on land owned by the Forest Department.
Authorities have confirmed that a total of 1,258 families are living illegally on the forest land and will be affected by the upcoming operation. The administration has stated that the eviction drive is necessary to protect the reserved forest area and prevent further encroachment.
Officials from the Forest Department and local administration have been coordinating to ensure the eviction is carried out smoothly and in accordance with the law.
Eviction drives in Assam have seen varying responses in recent months. Earlier in August, in central Assam’s Nagaon district, a similar operation was called off after the alleged encroachers voluntarily demolished their structures ahead of the scheduled eviction at Jengoni in the Dhing area. District officials said the voluntary action avoided any forced displacement, with encroachers demolishing 120 business establishments and 51 houses to clear 28 bighas of government land. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the development, stating that voluntary compliance is preferable to confrontation.
