No cold war in Meghalaya’s NPP, says Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar No cold war in Meghalaya’s NPP, says Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday denied reports of any internal conflict or “cold war” within the National People’s Party (NPP), particularly with his fellow Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong. Dhar emphasized that the party leadership, including Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, functions as a “big and happy family,” and urged media outlets to retract baseless stories that suggested otherwise.

Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “This is our family affair. We are very united. Me, Prestone Tynsong, and Conrad Sangma—we are one. Any reports of a cold war are wrong, and I would like the news outlets that carried such stories to apologize. We are working together for the development of the state, not for spreading rumors.”

Dhar also addressed speculations about the 2028 election tickets. He called discussions about future elections premature, noting that the polls are still over two and a half years away. “This is not the time to talk about elections. The time will come, and we will speak on that. For now, our focus is on the development of Meghalaya. We aim to deliver good governance and ensure the progress of the state,” he said.

The Deputy CM expressed confidence that the NPP is well-positioned to secure a record-breaking single majority in the next state assembly elections. He stressed that the leadership’s current priority remains state affairs and strengthening the administration rather than political maneuvering or internal disputes.

Dhar’s comments come in response to recent media reports suggesting differences within the party, which he called “sad to see” and misleading. He reiterated that the leadership team shares a common vision for Meghalaya and is committed to working together in harmony.

“Our party is united, and we live and work as one family,” Dhar said. “At this time, it is important to focus on diplomacy, development, and public service. Internal politics and election speculation will be discussed when the right time comes, but not now.”
