Voting to elect the new leadership of Nepal’s Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN–UML) concluded early Thursday morning after an overnight polling process at Bhrikutimandap. The election results are expected before noon, according to the party’s election commission.

A total of 2,227 convention delegates cast their votes, while 36 delegates remained absent. The party is electing 301 central committee members and 19 office bearers in this election. Officials said the vote count will begin immediately, and results may be made public around 10:30 am if counting proceeds smoothly and there are no technical disruptions.

Polling began at 9 am on Wednesday and continued through the night. Earlier, voting scheduled for Tuesday evening had to be postponed due to technical problems. The voting process was further delayed on Wednesday morning as party chair KP Sharma Oli reached the polling venue behind schedule, causing a pause in the proceedings.

To manage the voting, 80 electronic voting machines were deployed at the site. Delegates formed queues across several booths. However, despite the use of electronic machines, each delegate reportedly required nearly 30 minutes to complete their vote due to the large number of candidates and positions to be filled.
