In the murder case of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife and prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, moved the Shillong Court seeking bail.
In her application, Sonam claimed she is innocent and insisted she had a peaceful married life with Raja. She dismissed allegations linking her to co-accused Raj Kushwaha, saying she never had a romantic association with him and that she saw him like a brother. Sonam also stated in her application that the accusations against her lack evidence and are based on assumptions.
The plea triggered an angry response from the victim’s family. Vipin Raghuvanshi, brother of the deceased, strongly opposed the bail request. He alleged that Sonam’s family is helping her from behind the scenes and trying to influence the legal process. The family has demanded that the court reject the bail plea keeping justice for Raja in mind.
Four people, including Sonam, are currently in judicial custody in connection with the murder. Statements of several key witnesses have already been recorded, while testimonies of others will be taken up soon. Sources linked to the investigation say the remaining witness statements are crucial for the case.
The Shillong Court is expected to hear the arguments on Sonam’s bail application in the coming days.
