Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has intensified his allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding alleged manipulation of voter lists in Assam. Speaking to the media, Gogoi challenged Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia to accompany him to the Kamakhya Temple and take a public oath denying the allegations of voter name deletions.
Gogoi claimed that during a video conference held on January 4, Dilip Saikia allegedly discussed the removal of nearly 10,000 names from electoral rolls. According to Gogoi, these names belonged mainly to voters who do not support the BJP. He said the meeting initially discussed a wall-writing campaign but later shifted to plans for deleting names from the voter list during the ongoing revision drive.
He further alleged that Saikia asked BJP workers and district presidents to submit booth-wise lists of non-supporting voters by January 12. Gogoi also named Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, accusing him of quietly supervising voter list “corrections” in at least 60 Assembly constituencies.
Gogoi demanded that the full recording of the video conference be made public. He said that if Saikia believes the allegations are false, he should come to the Kamakhya Temple and swear before the goddess that no such discussion took place. Gogoi said this challenge was meant to ensure transparency and truth before the people of Assam.
The Raijor Dal MLA stated that his party would submit a memorandum to the Election Commission of India, asking authorities to seize the video recording and investigate the matter. He said that if the commission does not act, he will seek intervention from the courts.
In a separate press interaction, Gogoi said he possesses photographic proof of the online meeting and claimed that the BJP would have denied the event if this evidence had not been made public. He also alleged that Dilip Saikia appeared uneasy during a recent press conference and suggested that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma may have reprimanded him over the issue.
Gogoi went on to say that he is ready to resign from both his MLA position and active politics if his statements are proven false. He said he is prepared to take an oath at Kamakhya Temple along with the BJP leaders to “bring out the truth”.
Raising constituency-level concerns, Gogoi questioned alleged voter deletions in Sivasagar and said that there are no “Miya voters” in the constituency. He further accused Ashok Singhal of interfering in constituencies where he is not a local resident.
Gogoi also claimed that dissatisfaction is growing inside the BJP, alleging that nearly 30 MLAs are unhappy and that some are in touch with his party. He said that several leaders could join Raijor Dal if required.
