In Tinsukia, a meeting of the Pradesh Congress manifesto committee was held today. APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, who was present at the meeting interacted with local party organisations and the public to exchange views.
During the interaction, Gaurav Gogoi spoke about the plans of the Congress party for the coming Assembly elections. He said that the party has already discussed how many seats Congress will contest and how many seats will be left for alliance partners. He said that even after leaving these seats for the alliance, the Congress is confident of getting a good response from the people of Assam.
Gaurav Gogoi also said that this time the people of Assam want change. According to him, people want to remove the BJP from power. He said that the Congress party has always been with the people of Assam and understands the mood of the public.
The Assam Congress president explained that the party is working closely with its alliance partners to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement. Congress is likely to contest around 100 seats, while the remaining seats will be allotted to allies. Discussions are already underway with parties such as Raijor Dal, Asom Jatiya Parishad and Left parties.
He said that the Congress leadership is confident that the joint opposition effort will receive strong support from voters. According to Gogoi, people across the state have been raising issues related to price rise, unemployment and various local concerns, and the party is trying to reflect these views in its manifesto.
Earlier on January 1, speaking about the party’s strategy for the Assembly polls, the APCC president said that the Congress was planning to contest around 100 constituencies across Assam. He said that the remaining 26 seats would be left for alliance partners as part of the joint opposition effort. Discussions on seat-sharing have already begun with allies including Raijor Dal, Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Left parties and others.
Gaurav Gogoi said the Congress party was confident that it would receive strong support from the people of Assam. He stated that the mood across the state suggested that people wanted change and were looking for an alternative to the current BJP-led government. He also said that the Congress had always stood with the people of Assam and understood their issues.
The APCC chief further announced that party ticket applications for aspiring candidates would be accepted online. Applications, along with a fee of Rs 50,000, can be submitted between January 5 and 20. He also clarified that applications were open for all 126 constituencies, but in the seats allocated to alliance partners, fees submitted by Congress applicants would be refunded.
The Congress is working along with several opposition parties in Assam to put up a united fight in the upcoming elections, expected in March-April. The joint front was formed last year with the stated aim of challenging the BJP-led ruling alliance.
