All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra, representing Krishnanagar in the Lok Sabha, has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its focus on religion in politics.
Speaking on social media, Moitra pointed out that cities like London and New York have Muslim mayors, even though Muslims are not the majority population there. “London and New York have Muslim mayors despite not being Muslim majority cities. That’s because voters in both cities looked beyond religion and race and focused on real issues,” she wrote on her Twitter handle.
She added that this scenario is what the BJP fears. According to Moitra, the ruling party worries that their hold on power could weaken when voters start prioritizing governance, development, and everyday issues over religion and caste. “This is BJP’s nightmare—they know they’re out the day voters focus on what really matters,” she said.
