Karbi youth leader and social activist, Litsong Rongphar, has said that open discussion, unity and responsibility from the government are important for the overall progress and welfare of the Karbi community. He shared his thoughts during an interaction where he spoke about the present situation of the community, its culture and the challenges faced by many people.

In a facebook live, Rongphar said that such discussions help people understand the real issues faced by the Karbi community. According to him, many Karbi people today have proper education, skills and even professional qualifications, yet they still face difficulties in different areas of life. He said people would easily understand the concern he was trying to highlight.

He said that the State Government and elected representatives have a major responsibility towards the people. Their decisions, he said, directly affect the lives and future of the community. Therefore, it is important that they work honestly and sincerely for public welfare. He added that people look to their leaders for guidance, justice and support, and that duty should be taken seriously.

Rongphar also spoke about the importance of communication within the community. He said that when people talk openly and listen to each other, they can better understand their identity, culture and traditions.

He further said that Karbi society has many traditional names, customs and practices. Even though some names or practices may differ from one place to another, they are still part of the same cultural system. He noted that this diversity exists within unity, and that the cultural roots of the community remain strong.

Rongphar pointed out that there is still a lot of work to be done to strengthen the community socially and culturally. He recalled that in the past, Karbi society had strong unity and leadership. People stood together and followed a collective sense of responsibility. He said the present generation should learn from that history and continue to protect and respect it.

He also mentioned that Martyrs’ Day was observed on 10 December to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the community. He said such observances show that people still remember the contribution of their leaders and heroes. According to him, this also reflects the unity, solidarity and emotional connection that still exist among the people.

Rongphar said that the government and relevant authorities must take proper responsibility to ensure justice and welfare for the community. He said that culture, identity and unity must always be protected, as they form the foundation of the Karbi people.

He added that when people understand their culture and stand together, they become stronger as a community. He encouraged more open dialogue, cooperation and sensitivity from both the government and society.
