#JusticeForZubeenGarg: Accused behind bars, public anger erupts outside Baksa jail

The supporters of Zubeen Garg have been vocal on social media, urging authorities to ensure strict action against the accused. Many fans were seen holding banners and shouting slogans outside the jail, expressing their demand for speedy justice.

In a major development in the investigation into the death of Assam’s cultural icon and popular singer Zubeen Garg, all five accused, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, were brought to the newly constructed Baksa District Jail in Nikasi today under tight security. The facility, which is state-of-the-art and modern, currently houses no other inmates, making Shyamkanu and Siddharth the first official prisoners of the jail. From today onward, their official location is the Baksa district jail.

The arrival of the accused created a tense atmosphere outside the jail. Thousands of Zubeen Garg’s fans gathered in front of the facility, demanding justice. The situation escalated when some fans threw stones at the convoy transporting the accused, causing minor damage to the vehicle. Despite the unrest, the convoy managed to reach the jail safely under the protection of heavy security personnel.

Baksa District Commissioner Gautam Das personally inspected the area around the jail to ensure the situation remained under control. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the CID, accompanied the accused from Rangia to Baksa. The court had earlier remanded all five accused to judicial custody at the Baksa district jail.
