Justice will prevail soon: Zubeen’s wife speaks as SIT tightens probe Justice will prevail soon: Zubeen’s wife speaks as SIT tightens probe

The investigation into the death of Assam’s most loved singer, Zubeen Garg, has entered a new and serious stage. The arrests of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, two men linked to the case, have not only drawn public attention but also brought an emotional response from Zubeen’s family. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and his sister, Palme Borthakur, have both spoken out, urging people to remain calm and to let the law take its course.

On Wednesday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) placed both accused in 14-day custody after producing them before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at his residence in Alpana Apartment, Geetanagar, Guwahati. The arrests followed days of speculation, protests, and growing demands for accountability. Both men were brought in amid heavy security, underlining how sensitive and high-profile the case has become.

Reacting to the arrests, Garima Saikia Garg expressed her trust in the legal system. “Now the law has taken its shape. They are proceeding in their own way. I hope the result will come soon and we will get justice. I have deep faith in the legal system,” she said. She also made an emotional appeal to Zubeen’s admirers, asking them not to create unrest. “I request Zubeen’s admirers with folded hands to let the law do its work. If unrest and disorder continue, where will Zubeen’s ideals remain?”

Her words came at a time when social media is flooded with emotions, anger, and frustration. Fans of the late singer have been voicing their grief and suspicion, but Garima’s message was clear — justice will come, but it must come through the right path.

Zubeen’s sister, Palme Borthakur, also welcomed the arrests. She said that those who were present with Zubeen at the time of his final moments had failed to fulfill their responsibility. “It’s good, the investigation is going in the right direction. The police and administration are working very hard, and we trust them. We know we will get justice. The voice of the people must be heard, then justice will prevail. Those who were around Zubeen at the time of the incident had a responsibility to bring him home safely, but they neglected it. They should be punished,” she said.

Her statement has further strengthened the public’s demand for a fair and thorough probe.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police are preparing to send a team to Singapore under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that all legal steps are being coordinated with the Singapore government to ensure no angle is left unchecked. Mahanta, who was brought from Singapore via Delhi, has been under close scrutiny since his detention. Investigators are also examining mobile phones, including one that reportedly belonged to Zubeen but was in Siddharth Sharma’s possession.

Gupta also dismissed recent rumors about Mahanta retaining his phone after arrest. “Once a person is taken into custody, it is not possible for them to keep their phone. This news is false,” he clarified.
