After facing widespread criticism on social media and from fans across Assam, Jagya Construction Pvt. Ltd., the company responsible for building the statue of late singer Zubeen Garg, has issued a formal apology. The company promised to make necessary corrections to ensure the statue truly reflects the likeness and spirit of the beloved artist.
The controversy erupted soon after the statue was unveiled. Photos and videos of the sculpture began circulating online, and fans were quick to point out that the face of the statue did not resemble Zubeen Garg accurately. What was meant to be a heartfelt tribute soon turned into a storm of public disapproval, with many calling the statue “unrecognisable” and “disrespectful” to the memory of Assam’s musical icon.
In response to the growing backlash, Jagya Construction released an official statement acknowledging the concerns. “The statue was created based on public suggestions to capture Zubeen’s likeness,” the statement read. “However, if there are any mistakes or inaccuracies in the sculpture, we sincerely apologise to everyone.”
The company explained that the artist responsible for painting the statue was unwell and could not personally supervise the finishing process. This, they said, may have led to some errors in appearance. “If any errors remain, we will review and repaint Zubeen Da’s face to ensure accuracy,” the company assured.
They also noted that photographs of the statue might appear different from how it looks in person due to lighting and camera angles. The statement ended with a short but emotional note of respect: “Thank you — Jai Zubeen Da.”
Despite the apology, the debate continued online, with fans sharing their disappointment and urging the authorities to ensure that the final version of the statue truly captures Zubeen Garg’s essence — his charm, warmth, and personality. Many netizens wrote that Zubeen deserved “nothing less than perfection” when it came to any tribute in his name.
