Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday made a series of light-hearted yet sharp remarks about the political scene in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister appeared confident about his predictions, saying that he could already foresee the moves of opposition parties and their leaders.
Sarma said that the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal would make his political entry soon. “After two days, Ajmal will enter, and then Mamata Banerjee will also come into the picture,” Sarma stated, indicating that opposition leaders may soon begin their preparations for the upcoming polls.
The Chief Minister went on to mention Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, predicting their seat-sharing demands and eventual compromises. “Akhil Gogoi will demand 20 seats and finally settle for one seat. Lurinjyoti Gogoi will ask for 15 seats and may end up agreeing to three. I can even tell which seats they will demand,” Sarma said. 
He further added with a hint of humour, “Akhil Gogoi will demand the entire world but will accept one seat and one consolation prize. I know everything and can tell everything in advance. Their seats can be decided even now.”
