Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today commenting on opposition alliances and the role of key leaders said that wherever Akhil Gogoi goes, “accidents happen” and “salt is put in the milk,” highlighting what he described as the disruptive influence of the opposition leader.

Referring to the opposition unity in Assam, Dr. Sarma said that it appeared more focused on personal agendas rather than elections. “In Assam, the opposition unity has become about fixing the marriage of Lurinjyoti Gogoi, not about elections. And wherever Akhil Gogoi is, there will be trouble. That is confirmed and sure. I am not worried about the opposition unity,” he added.

Dr. Sarma also commented on the Bihar election results, which he said were significant for political trends in Assam. He expressed confidence in the upcoming 2026 Assam elections, saying, “Every woman and every family member will vote for us. The elections will be very good for us.”

The Chief Minister termed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the “biggest star campaigner of the BJP,” asserting that if Rahul Gandhi campaigns in Assam, it will only strengthen the BJP’s chances. “Wherever Rahul Gandhi goes, the BJP will win. If Rahul Gandhi comes to Assam, we will win for sure,” he said.

On the ground, Dr. Sarma drew a clear contrast between the BJP and opposition parties. “The opposition is in Hotel Lily, away from the people. We are with the people, among the people. This is the difference,” he said, underlining the party’s strategy of direct engagement with voters.
