Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed a section of the state’s Miya Muslim community are creating multiple Facebook accounts under Hindu names. The Chief Minister said these accounts are being used to influence public opinion and spread anti-BJP messages.

Addressing the media, Sarma said, “Every Miya Muslim has opened five to six Facebook accounts, and in each account they use a Hindu name.” He added that individuals often present themselves as “Rahul” or other common Hindu names to Assamese users. According to him, in some cases, these fake identities are used to form relationships with Hindu girls, with the real identity being revealed only after marriage. “Only after getting married it is discovered that the person is actually Rahul Ali,” the Chief Minister stated.

Sarma further alleged that some members of the community possess forged documents, including Aadhar cards and other identity papers. He claimed, “Everything they have is fake/duplicate. From Aadhar to all other documents, they have fake documents to survive here in Assam.” He described fake social media accounts as a “small issue” compared to these alleged document irregularities.
