The ongoing court hearing related to the mysterious death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg concluded today, with the court fixing January 17 as the next date of hearing. The case continues to draw strong public attention across Assam, as the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death remain under investigation.

During today’s proceedings, the court heard multiple bail applications filed by individuals accused in the case. One of the key accused, Amritprabha Mahanta, submitted a fresh bail plea before the court. In addition to this, three others; Zubeen’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, and two personal security officers (PSOs) also filed their own bail applications.

The lawyer representing Amritprabha Mahanta presented detailed arguments in support of her application. However, the prosecution informed the court that it would submit a written objection to the bail plea during the next hearing. As a result, the court scheduled the matter for January 17, when further arguments are expected to be presented.

Meanwhile, two other accused in the case, Siddharth Sharma and Shyamkanu Mahanta, have appointed lawyers independently to represent them. Both have reportedly engaged legal counsel from Kolkata. Another accused, Shekharjyoti Goswami, has also appointed his own separate legal representative for the case.

According to court records, a total of seven individuals have been named as accused in the case. The matter is currently being heard in the sessions court, and the trial process is still underway. The court is continuing to review evidence, witness statements, and submissions made by both the defence and prosecution.

The case relates to the death of renowned singer and music icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025. Reports stated that he had been involved in a swimming-related incident, following which he was rushed to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved. His death sent shockwaves across Assam and the Assamese music world, as Zubeen was one of the most celebrated and loved cultural figures in the state.

Soon after the incident, serious allegations began to surface. His manager, Siddharth Sharma, was accused of playing a role in organising the “incident,” along with several others. These allegations eventually led to the registration of a case and the naming of seven accused persons.

Since then, the case has continued to move through the legal process, with investigations still in progress. The court is examining whether there was any conspiracy or negligence involved, or whether the death was purely accidental. The final conclusion will depend on the findings placed before the court.

Because of Zubeen Garg’s immense popularity, the case continues to attract widespread public and media attention. Many of his fans, followers and well-wishers have been closely tracking every update related to the hearings. Zubeen was known not only for his music but also for his outspoken personality, social involvement, and deep connection with the people of Assam.

Even today, discussions continue across the state about the progress of the investigation and the latest developments in court. However, as the matter is sub-judice, final conclusions will only be possible once the court completes the hearing and passes judgment.

With the prosecution set to submit objections to the bail applications and further arguments likely to follow, January 17 is expected to be an important date in the case. Until then, all accused persons who have applied for bail will have to wait for the court’s next order.
