IndiGo passengers in Guwahati had a difficult day on Monday as several flights to and from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport were cancelled. Long queues were seen near airline counters through the morning and many passengers said they came to know about the cancellations only after reaching the airport.

The airline has been facing large-scale disruption across the country since the weekend. According to information shared by the airline, more than 300 flights were cancelled in India on Monday. Guwahati was not among the highest affected airports, but at least 10 IndiGo flights to and from the city were cancelled during the day, causing delays and confusion for travellers heading to Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Silchar and Agartala.

A list shared by airport officials showed that flight 6E 207, 6E 212, 6E 394, 6E 5140, 6E 6342, 6E 6552, 6E 6720, 6E 930 and 6E 930 were among the cancelled services connected to Guwahati. Some were incoming flights, while others were departures from Guwahati.

Several passengers told this newspaper that they waited for hours at the terminal building as they tried to make new travel plans. Some visitors returning from Kolkata said they were unable to get confirmed tickets on other airlines because of the sudden rush. People travelling to Delhi and Mumbai for business said they had to postpone meetings or cancel their trips altogether.

Across the country, Delhi recorded 134 cancellations, which included 75 departures and 59 arrivals. Bengaluru reported 127, with 65 arrivals and 62 departures. Chennai had 71 cancellations, Hyderabad 77 and Jaipur 27.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show-cause notice to the airline and asked for a detailed explanation. On Monday, the regulator gave the airline 24 more hours to file its reply.

IndiGo has said that its flight operations are expected to stabilise by December 10. The airline also said that refunds of nearly ₹610 crore have already been processed, and that passengers will get full waiver on cancellations and rescheduling till December 15.
