Fear spread across Kakopathar in Tinsukia district late Thursday night, October 16, when unidentified attackers launched a sudden and violent assault on an Indian Army camp. According to reports, the assailants used grenades and fired indiscriminately, leaving the area in shock.
The attack reportedly began around 12:30 AM when three Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL) were fired at the Army installation. This was followed by nearly thirty minutes of continuous gunfire.
Eyewitnesses told local media that the attackers had arrived in a truck before carrying out the assault. Initial reports suggest that three Army personnel were injured, though officials have not yet confirmed the full extent of the damage to the camp.
The area around the camp was immediately cordoned off, and massive search operations were launched in Kakopathar and neighboring areas. Authorities have restricted the movement of civilians as they continue combing the region for any suspects or remaining threats.
Preliminary investigations point towards the possible involvement of the outlawed militant group ULFA (Independent).
