On the first day of 2026, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi addressed a press conference and shared the Congress Party’s plan for the coming year. He began his address by wishing the people of Assam a happy New Year and said the party wants to work for what he called a “New Bor Axom”.

During the interaction with the media, Gaurav Gogoi announced five main promises that Congress aims to implement if it forms the government in Assam. He said these promises reflect the concerns of common people and are focused on improving basic services, governance and opportunities.

The first major promise is to improve education and healthcare. Gogoi said Congress wants Assam to become one of the leading states in India in these two areas. He stressed that students, patients and families should get proper facilities not only in big cities but also in small towns and villages.

The second promise is the modernisation of government work. He said Congress would work together with government employees and improve the functioning of offices so that people receive services smoothly. He also claimed that the present government has ignored the concerns of employees, which has affected work culture.

The third promise talks about economic development for all regions. Gogoi said economic growth should not remain limited to big contractors or urban centres. Farmers, small businesses, workers and rural families must also benefit. He said a balanced economy is important for the future of Assam.

The fourth promise focuses on law and order. According to him, the present situation in the state is a matter of concern. He alleged that some people with political links enjoy special protection. He said Congress would reform policing and ensure equal treatment under the law.

The fifth promise deals with youth empowerment. Gogoi said many young people today face unemployment and drug addiction. Congress wants to expand skill development, promote sports culture and help youth build meaningful careers and healthier lives.

Gaurav Gogoi also said that Congress would complete the projects that the BJP government has not been able to deliver so far. He invited citizens to share their views and suggestions with the party through email so that people can participate in shaping the idea of “New Bor Axom.”

He further explained the procedure for people who wish to contest elections on a Congress ticket. Application forms can be downloaded from the APCC website and submitted at Rajiv Bhawan within 15 days. The fee for submitting the form is ₹50,000. He also said that Congress plans to contest 100 Assembly constituencies.

Speaking about the electoral rolls, Gogoi appealed to people and authorities to remain alert against individuals who may attempt to vote in Assam despite being registered elsewhere. He said such situations must be monitored to protect the democratic process.

Gogoi also said he hopes the Chief Minister of Assam will respond clearly to allegations regarding links with Pakistan, as such matters are serious and people deserve transparency.
