Congress leader and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi taking a dig at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comments on him said that the Chief Minister has lost credibility in the eyes of the people and is now scared of losing power in the state.
Speaking to media, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi took a sharp dig at the Chief Minister. He said that over the last few months, Himanta Biswa Sarma has shown signs of insecurity and desperation. Gogoi added that people across Assam can see this change in the Chief Minister’s behaviour.
Gogoi said that while the entire state was watching late singer Zubeen Garg’s final performance at the Roi Roi Binale event, the Chief Minister chose to make comments that did not match the emotions of the people. Gogoi said that Assam was grieving the loss of a beloved artist, but the Chief Minister still made political remarks, which only showed his fear and anxiety about losing public support.
He said, “Over the past few months Himanta Biswa Sarma dangoriya has lost credibility. Yesterday, when the entire state was watching Zubeen Garg perform for the last time in Roi Roi Binale, the Chief Minister’s comments showed his growing fear of losing power. It was another example of why he is unfit as the Chief Minister of the people of Assam.”
Gogoi also said that the people of Assam are watching everything and that the political environment in the state is changing. According to him, young people, students, artists, and common families no longer trust the Chief Minister as they did before. He said more and more people are now asking questions about governance, accountability, and truth.
This strong reaction from Gaurav Gogoi came after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a controversial statement on October 31. While speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister called Gogoi a “100 per cent Pakistani agent” and claimed that he had been planted by foreign powers in India.
The Chief Minister also claimed that he had evidence but would release it only after the investigation related to singer Zubeen Garg’s death is completed. He said that speaking at this time would divert the public’s attention from the emotional situation in the state.
Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi is a Pakistani agent. He is purely that. He has been planted by foreign power in our country.” The Chief Minister and the BJP have earlier made similar allegations and often targeted Gogoi’s wife, who is a British citizen, suggesting foreign connections. Gogoi has always rejected these claims and called them false and cheap politics.
The Chief Minister said he would hold a press conference in the future to show evidence to the public.
Earlier, Gaurav Gogoi had called these comments a script from a “C-grade Bollywood film”. He had said that such statements will not work because people in Assam are not foolish. According to him, the public understands what is real and what is only political drama.
Gogoi also said that political leaders should talk about real issues such as unemployment, rising living costs, price of essential items, and the welfare of youth and farmers, instead of making personal attacks.
