To honour the legacy of late music legend Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Saikia Garg, sister Palmee Borthakur, and a group of close associates visited his cremation site at Sonapur on Thursday morning to review the proposed design for Zubeen’s Samadhi Kshetra.

The visit was a follow-up to a detailed presentation held a day earlier at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, where the team showcased a conceptual plan for the memorial. On Thursday, the group inspected the site to understand how the proposed design could fit into the allotted land area and what changes might be required.

Along with Garima and Palmee, several well-known personalities, including actor Pranjal Saikia, Sudarshan Thakur, Pulak Banerjee, Anuradha Sharma Pujari, Tarali Sharma, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, and Biren Singh, were present at the site. A team of architects also joined the visit to assess the technical aspects of the plan.

According to reports, around 10 bighas of land have been allocated for the memorial project. However, local residents have come forward with generous support, offering an additional 30 to 40 bighas of land to make the Samadhi Kshetra larger and more meaningful. They informed the team that most of the land in the area belongs to the Assam government, while some parts are owned by Minister Ashok Singhal.
