One month after the sudden and untimely death of Assam’s most loved singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, his family and close relatives gathered at Sonapur, where he was cremated, to pay an emotional tribute. The atmosphere at the memorial was filled with tears, prayers, and heartfelt memories of the man whose songs and spirit continue to echo across Assam and beyond.
Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, along with his sister Palmee Borthakur and other family members, offered floral tributes at the site and lit candles in remembrance. The family later carried Zubeen’s ashes to Jorhat, his ancestral home, as a symbolic gesture of taking him back to his roots, where his musical journey began and where his heart always belonged.
Speaking at the memorial, Garima’s voice trembled with emotion as she said, “Zubeen lives in all our hearts. He will always remain alive in our hearts, having built a home there forever. We need justice, and we will keep fighting for the truth. We will always remember Zubeen of our soul.” Her words brought tears to many eyes as people stood silently, listening to the woman who had shared her life with the man who was loved by an entire generation.
Garima added, “I hope and pray that you will always make Zubeen Garg immortal. As you were always with Zubeen, be always with him. Zubeen will always remain with us forever.”
The memorial saw hundreds of people joining in silent remembrance. Fans held candles, played his songs softly in the background, and whispered prayers for the man who had become a part of their lives. For many, it was not just a memorial—it was a moment of unity and shared grief.
Garima also told everyone that next month, on November 18, Zubeen would have celebrated his 53rd birthday. “Even though he has left us, we will keep him alive in our hearts. We will continue everything he wanted to do—planting trees, preserving his songs, and spreading his message of love and harmony,” she said. “Zubeen always believed that art and kindness could change the world. That is what we will carry forward.”
