Manipur Police and security forces have stepped up their statewide crackdown on insurgent activities and illegal poppy cultivation, arresting four militants and clearing large areas of illicit farmland in the past two days. The operations were carried out across several districts with the aim of improving law and order and ensuring the safety of residents.

In one of the major arrests, police detained Yumnam Tomba Singh, 56, an active member of the RPF/PLA. He was intercepted at the Kakching Police Station Gate checkpoint. During the search, security personnel recovered a 7.62 LMG, a .303 LMG, an SLR rifle, 583 live rounds of ammunition, and a mobile phone. Officials said this was one of the biggest weapon recoveries made in recent weeks.

On the same day, police arrested Oinam Bishorjit Singh, 28, from his home at Thiyam Leishangkhong Leirak in Imphal West. He is suspected of being involved in extortion activities for the KCP (PWG). A mobile phone and ₹34,000, believed to be extortion money, were seized from him.

Another arrest was made in Imphal West when teams picked up Konjengbam Chandrakumar Singh, 40, an active member of the RPF/PLA. He was staying at the Takyelpat Government Polytechnic Quarter Type-III. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, a magazine, 13 live rounds, and two mobile phones from his possession.

A day earlier, Central Forces nabbed Konjenbam Sanathoi Singh, an 18-year-old cadre of PREPAK (PRO), near Moreh Gate No. 2 in Tengnoupal district. In a separate incident, police recovered a .38 pistol with two live rounds from the Heirangoithong bridge area under Singjamei Police Station on November 22.

Officials said these arrests were the result of intelligence-based searches and would continue as part of a sustained effort to dismantle extortion groups and armed networks operating in the state.

Meanwhile, in another coordinated effort, security forces destroyed a total of 17 acres of illegal poppy cultivation across two districts. The operations were carried out ahead of the winter season, a time when poppy cultivation usually increases.

On November 21, security personnel, along with the district administration and the Forest Division in Machi, uprooted around 10 acres of poppy fields in the Machi hill range under Machi Police Station in Tengnoupal district. A day before that, another team cleared about 7 acres of poppy plantations in the Thengjang and Lasan areas under Tamei Police Station in Tamenglong district.

During the clearance drive, officers also destroyed four makeshift huts, four bags of urea, and 107 packets of salt stored at the cultivation sites.
