A female tiger was found dead inside Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam on January 4. The carcass was recovered from the Paschim Bimoli area under the Western Range at Bagori, officials said.
Forest staff spotted the body of the tigress during a routine patrol early in the morning and immediately informed senior authorities. The tigress is believed to have been around eight to ten years old.
According to Kaziranga officials, the carcass was located deep inside the protected forest. A detailed examination was carried out by an official committee, following the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority. Kaziranga National Park Director and Divisional Forest Officer Arun Vignesh said preliminary findings suggest that the big cat may have died due to infighting with another tiger.
He said such conflicts are common among tigers in the wild and are considered a natural cause of death.
A post-mortem was conducted in the presence of senior forest officers and veterinarians. Further tests are expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
