The Dhemaji District and Sessions Court today sentenced Pradip Gogoi to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of 65-year-old Pramila Gogoi in April 2021. The verdict was delivered by Judge Kalyanjit Saikia, who found the accused guilty under Sections 302 and 448 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, Pradip Gogoi attacked the elderly woman with a knife, killing her in a gruesome manner. Shockingly, he reportedly removed her heart and was seen carrying it before being apprehended by the police with help from local residents.
The case, registered as FIR 211/2021 at Dhemaji Police Station by the deceased’s son, was investigated by officer Chandan Basumatary, who submitted a detailed chargesheet to the court. During the trial, testimonies of five key witnesses were recorded, forming the basis of today’s decisive judgment.
Dhemaji Court’s public prosecutor, Ajay Phoglai, stated that the verdict marks an important step in delivering justice in one of the district’s most shocking murder cases, sending a strong message against such heinous crimes.
