Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Debabrata Saikia criticised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Saikia said that the Chief Minister is trying to create a wrong image about Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi only to gain attention and score political points.
Saikia said that the Chief Minister has been bringing up Gaurav Gogoi’s Pakistan visit from 2024 again and again, not because there is anything serious in it, but simply to stay in the news. According to Saikia, the Chief Minister started talking about this issue again on September 10, and has continued doing so as November 10 approaches. Saikia said that the Chief Minister is doing this because he wants media focus and wants to create controversy. He even called it a “flop film” that the Chief Minister keeps repeating just to stay relevant.
Saikia said that if the Chief Minister really has any proof or information about Gaurav Gogoi that is serious and important for the public, then he should share it openly. He added that only talking in public meetings and press interactions without giving evidence is not the right thing to do. “If the Chief Minister truly has such information against Gaurav Gogoi, he should place it before the public,” Saikia said.
The Congress leader also accused the Chief Minister of deliberately trying to divert attention from the issue related to the death of popular Assam singer Zubeen Garg. Recently, there have been many discussions and questions in the state regarding Zubeen’s death, with some claiming it was not a natural death and that the circumstances should be investigated properly. Saikia said that instead of addressing this matter seriously, the Chief Minister has been making comments about a so-called FIR related to Zubeen Garg’s “murder” case only to mislead the public.
According to Saikia, the Chief Minister’s remarks are meant to take the focus away from the real questions and concerns regarding Zubeen Garg’s death. Saikia said the Chief Minister is sensationalising the matter by using big statements without clarity or proof. “The Chief Minister is trying to shift focus from the truth behind Zubeen Garg’s death by making sensational remarks,” Saikia said. He urged the Chief Minister to be more responsible and avoid politicising a sensitive issue that has hurt the emotions of the people of Assam.
