Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia today said that the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh must be condemned in the strongest terms. The incident, which he described as a barbaric killing, has created deep concern among rights activists and community organisations about the condition of Hindu minorities across the border.
Saikia urged the Government of India to immediately intervene through diplomatic channels. He said that such incidents highlight a persistent threat faced by Hindus in Bangladesh and demanded that the Ministry of External Affairs raise the matter without delay. According to Saikia, the killing shows clear signs of targeted violence and must be investigated thoroughly with accountability ensured.
He called on New Delhi to take up the matter at the highest levels with Dhaka and seek guarantees for minority protection. Saikia said that the Indian government should not remain silent on attacks against members of a community with strong cultural and historical ties to India.
He also urged India to raise the issue at international platforms, including the United Nations, so that the global community is made aware of repeated violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. Saikia said that India has a responsibility to draw attention to the issue and push for concrete measures to ensure safety for those living in fear.
Saikia said that India often claims to have achieved diplomatic leadership on the global stage, and said that now is the time to demonstrate it. He said that Bangladesh maintains significant trade partnerships with the United States, China, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Saikia suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak to world leaders such as Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Georgia Meloni and Mohammed bin Zayed, urging them to consider restricting trade with Bangladesh to apply economic pressure.
Saikia said that India could make use of its international relationships to secure safeguards for minorities in Bangladesh. He added that the government should also explore the possibility of establishing an autonomous region for Hindus inside Bangladesh through diplomatic channels and support from the United Nations.
Said said that Prime Minister should reassure Hindu communities in India by publicly supporting these measures during his next visit to Assam. Saikia said that such an assurance would send a strong message that the Indian government is committed to protecting the rights of minority Hindus living outside the country.
Said further said that the killing of Dipu Chandra Das is not only a tragic loss of life but a matter of humanitarian concern that requires urgent and decisive action.
