A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday visited the Kheroni area in West Karbi Anglong district to review the situation following the recent incidents of violence in the region. The team was sent by APCC President Gaurav Gogoi to carry out a ground-level assessment and to meet families affected by the unrest.

The Congress delegation travelled to the violence-hit area to understand what led to the tension and how the local people are coping after the disturbing events. Two persons Linus Phangs and Suraj De had lost their lives during the recent unrest. The visiting leaders went to their homes, laid floral tributes, and expressed their condolences to the grieving family members. They also listened quietly as the families spoke about their loss and the days following the incident.

According to party leaders, the purpose of the visit was mainly to gather first-hand information from residents instead of relying only on reports. The delegation interacted with villagers, local organisations, and community elders to understand the current situation on the ground. They also tried to learn whether normal life has begun to return or if fear still remains among the people.

Among them were Dudhnai MLA Yadav Swargiary, former minister and APCC Vice President Pranoy Rabha, APCC General Secretary Bitopan Saikia, former MLA Mansing Rongpi, and West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee President Augustine Ingti. Also part of the delegation were Vice President of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Rakesh Chakraborty, APCC General Secretary and former Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council member Ashok Taron, and APCC Secretary Prashanta Mahanta, along with other party workers.

During their visit, the Congress leaders walked through the affected neighbourhoods and interacted with local residents to understand how the clashes unfolded. Residents reportedly shared their concerns regarding safety, fear, and uncertainty about the future. The delegation assured the people that the party would raise their concerns at appropriate forums.

The leaders said that loss of life in such incidents is deeply unfortunate and that both peace and communal harmony must be maintained at all times. They stressed the need for the administration to ensure security so that people in the area feel safe in their homes and daily work is not disturbed.
