Members of the BTC Sutradhar Students’ Union on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tamulpur, demanding the creation of a satellite autonomous council. The protestors raised slogans against the Assam Government, expressing their dissatisfaction with what they called the government’s neglect of their long-pending demands.

Holding placards and banners, the demonstrators gathered near the DC office premises and shouted slogans such as “Mukhyamantrir kam nai” (the Chief Minister has done nothing) and “Mukhyamantrir dom nai” (the Chief Minister has no strength), reflecting their anger and disappointment.

Leaders of the students’ union said that their demand for a separate satellite autonomous council had been raised several times in the past, but the state government had failed to take any step toward fulfilling it. They claimed that the Sutradhar community within the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area has been deprived of development and political representation for many years.
