Sunil Kumar Basumatary, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Udalguri District, has resigned from his post and also relinquished his primary membership in the party. The resignation, submitted on Monday, comes just a few months ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, raising questions about its possible impact on the party in the district.
In his resignation letter addressed to the President of BJP Assam Pradesh, Basumatary stated that the decision was entirely for personal reasons. “It is kindly to inform you that I tender my resignation from BJP Primary Membership as well as from BJP District President Udalguri District from today, i.e., 11.11.25. This resignation is entirely due to my personal reasons as I intend to devote my time to personal goals and fulfill self-satisfaction,” the letter read. He also extended his good wishes to the party and its workers for future success.
