Beaten like ‘Taliban’: Zubeen Garg fan alleges brutal police assault

A devoted fan of late singer Zubeen Garg, identified as Ajit Bhuyan has alleged that he was brutally beaten by police officials at Azara Police Station. Bhuyan claimed that he was “beaten like the Taliban beats people” simply because he had shown his love and support for the late music icon.

According to Ajit Bhuyan, the ordeal began a day after Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains were brought back to Assam. “We went to the Guwahati airport around 11 pm to see Zubeen da’s body. That night, nothing happened. But the next day, police from Sualkuchi and Azara came and picked me up. They took me to the police station and beat me up so badly,” Bhuyan said.

He further claimed that the police taunted him while beating him. “They kept saying, will Zubeen Garg come and save you now? They told me this and kept hitting me. I was beaten like the Taliban beats people. I cannot move my hands and legs now. I am still under medical care,” he said.

Bhuyan’s mother said that she had tried to stop her son from going to the airport that night. “I told him not to go, but he went because he loved Zubeen da. The police beat him so badly. What can I say? Just for supporting Zubeen Garg, my son was treated like a criminal,” she said, breaking down.
