Assamese feature film Goodbye Guruji was screened today as the opening film at the Teen Indie Film Awards (TIFA) 2025, held at RV University, Bengaluru. The five-day festival, running from November 10 to 14, brings together young filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts from across India and abroad.

Directed by Arunjit Borah, Goodbye Guruji stars Partha Pratim Hazarika and Aimee Barua in pivotal roles. The film, which was recently showcased at the Festival Gange Sur Seine in Paris, France, has already received praise for its storytelling, cultural depth, and depiction of Assam’s traditional art forms.

Speaking ahead of the Bengaluru screening, director Borah dedicated the film to the memory of legendary singer Zubeen Garg. “This is a very difficult time for all of us as we are yet to come to terms with the passing of the legend,” he said. A tribute was paid to Zubeen Garg before the film’s screening at TIFA on November 10.

Speaking on the international response, Borah said, “People attending the screening in Paris appreciated the concept of the film. It beautifully showcases the thousand-year-old heritage of Assam through its portrayal of Bhaona. I am confident that the young audience at RV University will connect with the story and its presentation.”

Produced by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) in association with Cinecraft Productions and supported by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Goodbye Guruji is expected to release in theatres across Assam next year.

The film also features Rupjyoti Mahanta, Rupkumar Borah, Naba Mahanta, and Anyun Kashyap in key roles. The story is by Sanjeev Tiwari, with screenplay by Arunjit Borah and Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap, who also served as associate director. Aparajita Bhuyan is the associate producer. Cinematography is by Asutosh Kashyap, with art direction by Arup Dutta, make-up by Panku Hazarika, and DI colour grading by Hadwit Baglari. The music is composed by Tarali Sarma, while Debajit Gayan handled sound design and RR mixing. Editing was done by Rantu Chetia, with Chinmay Dutta as chief assistant director. Prithul Kumar produced the film, with Vivek Agarwal of Cinecraft Productions as co-producer.
