Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that security across the state has been tightened following the recent bomb blast in Delhi. Speaking to reporters, Sarma said that after the Delhi incident and the earlier attack in Chahalgam, the government has taken the situation very seriously and has increased security measures in all districts of Assam.
The Chief Minister said that security agencies have launched a detailed search and background verification drive to identify individuals who are showing support for terrorist activities on social media platforms. “After yesterday’s incident and the Pahalgam attack, we have seen several people on Facebook supporting or defending such acts. This is unacceptable. Supporting terrorism in any form is a serious offence,” Sarma said.
He further added that the police and cybercrime units are tracking online activities and those found spreading or endorsing extremist ideologies will face strict legal action. “We have launched a manhunt for those involved in such online behaviour. Background checks are going on, and those people will be arrested soon,” the Chief Minister said.
Sarma also urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious online or offline activity to the nearest police station. He said that maintaining peace and unity is the state’s top priority and that the government will not allow any attempt to disturb communal harmony.
The Chief Minister reassured that all security and intelligence agencies are working together to ensure the safety of the people.
