A two-member team from the Assam Police has reached Singapore to investigate the mysterious death of Assam’s beloved singer and cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19. The sudden demise of the artist, who was in Singapore to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, has left fans across Assam and the entire Northeast in deep shock and mourning.

According to reports, the investigation team includes CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, who is heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), and Titabor Co-District SP Tarun Goel, a key member of the core investigation group. The duo will coordinate with Singaporean authorities to collect vital evidence, including forensic and medical documents related to Garg’s death.

Senior officials said that the Assam Police team would also visit the exact location where Zubeen Garg reportedly drowned. The inspection of the site, they added, will help establish the chain of events leading to his death. Sources close to the probe mentioned that all findings and observations will remain confidential until the team returns and officially reports their progress.

The SIT was formed under the Criminal Investigation Department after more than 60 FIRs were filed across Assam, demanding a transparent and detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death. Public sentiment continues to remain strong, with the #JusticeForZubeenGarg campaign trending widely on social media platforms. Candlelight marches, prayer meets, and tribute concerts have been held across towns and villages, reflecting the people’s deep connection with the late musician.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing the media during his visit to Kaziranga, said the government is fully committed to bringing out the truth. “The SIT will brief the media after their return from Singapore and submit their report to the appropriate authorities. We are committed to transparency in this investigation,” he said.
