Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress President Mira Borthakur has strongly criticised the ruling BJP for its handling of the investigation into the death of music icon Zubeen Garg. Speaking on social media, Borthakur questioned the effectiveness of the state government, asking, “Who is running the government in Dispur?”
In her post, Borthakur claimed that the BJP had been forced to take the matter to the streets because the state government failed to deliver justice. She also highlighted that the party’s own state president, Dilip Saikia, had effectively admitted the government’s shortcomings while speaking at Zubeen Garg’s cremation site in Sonapur.
Borthakur’s remarks come after Saikia announced a statewide Justice March (Samdal) to support the cause. The march, scheduled from October 22 to 27, will begin in Nalbari, move to Mangaldoi on October 23, and continue to Dibrugarh and Cachar on October 24. The march aims to rally public support for justice in Zubeen Garg’s death.
Responding to criticism, Saikia said, “People are free to criticise, but as a party, we will pursue justice relentlessly. Politics can be debated, but no one should exploit Zubeen’s death for political gain. Zubeen himself did not engage in politics, and neither should anyone use this tragedy for political calculations. If anyone politicizes his death, we will respond firmly.”
