The Assam government has carried out an important reshuffle in the police department, transferring several senior officers to new posts across the state. These changes, announced by the Home and Political Department on October 30, 2025, are aimed at strengthening the police administration and improving law and order in different regions. The government said the transfers have been made in the interest of public service, and the officers have been asked to take charge of their new roles immediately.

One of the key transfers is that of Padmanabh Baruah, a 2016-batch IPS officer. He was serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) in Guwahati. Now, he has been appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Udalguri district. His posting replaces officer Pushkin Jain. This transfer also partially changes an earlier order that the government had issued on October 17, 2025. The new order will take effect as soon as Baruah assumes charge in Udalguri.

Meanwhile, Pushkin Jain, a 2017-batch IPS officer, has been shifted from his role as SSP Udalguri. He has now been posted in the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati. Jain will head the unit that deals with crimes against women and children. The department noted that this is an important and sensitive assignment, and Jain will fill an existing vacancy in this section.

Another officer mentioned in the latest orders is Jagadish Das, a 2004-batch APS officer. Das was transferred earlier on October 17 from his post as Senior Superintendent of Police in Sadiya to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Border) in Guwahati. However, the latest notification has kept his transfer on hold. This means his earlier transfer order will not be carried out for now, and further instructions will be issued later by the department.

In addition to these appointments, the government has posted officer Anjan Pandit to a new position. Pandit, a 2010-batch APS officer who was earlier the Commandant of the 7th Assam Police Battalion in Charaikhola, Kokrajhar, has been made the Senior Superintendent of Police for CID (Zonal-I) in Guwahati. This posting also modifies the government’s earlier order dated October 17. He will now take up the responsibility of supervising important CID functions in the zonal office.
