A video allegedly involving Assam BJP MLA Bidya Sing Engleng went viral on social media in September 2025, triggering widespread discussions and concerns, especially among people in Karbi Anglong. Even after months of debate online and offline, no official statement or disciplinary action has been announced by the party. The silence from the leadership has become a major point of public discussion.
Despite the controversy, Engleng continues with his regular political responsibilities. He was recently seen attending the ongoing Assam Assembly session, drawing attention from both supporters and critics. Many citizens feel that the matter should have been addressed clearly by now, especially because the issue has remained active on social media for a long time.
A section of the public has questioned the Assam BJP Pradesh leadership for not giving any response. People have also expressed disappointment toward some Karbi Anglong–based organisations, saying these groups have not taken a clear stand or demanded accountability. Most of these reactions have come from public posts, comments, and discussions circulating widely on social platforms.
Background of the September Incident
Back in September 2025, Diphu witnessed strong public outrage after the viral video first surfaced online. Protests were held across the town, with political and student bodies demanding a transparent response from the authorities.
The Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee and the Mahila Congress organised a sit-in protest at the KASA Gate from 11 a.m., urging the government to act immediately. APCC media panellist Charisma Rongpipi termed the incident “unacceptable for a public representative,” adding that public trust depends on honesty and accountability.
Several other organisations, including the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) and the Women Karbi Students’ Association (WKSA), joined the protests. These groups demanded that the matter be examined under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
Residents in Diphu and surrounding areas also voiced frustration, saying that political leaders should maintain higher moral standards. Many people took to social media, where discussions continued for days, reflecting a growing demand for transparency in public life.
