MLA Akhil Gogoi has come down heavily on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of doing politics over the name of late singer Zubeen Garg. Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said that the Chief Minister was playing with people’s emotions and using Zubeen’s name for political gain.
Akhil Gogoi said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma’s mouth should be stitched for doing politics in the name of Zubeen Garg. The people of Assam are not happy and satisfied with this government. He is playing with the emotions of our people. Zubeen brother was a pride of Assam, not a tool for politics.”
He further urged the people of Assam to join a large public gathering on Sunday at Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati. Gogoi said the rally would send a strong message to the government about the people’s anger and disappointment. “I request everyone to come to Dighalipukhuri tomorrow. Thousands of people will gather to say that the government has failed to deliver justice. We want justice for Zubeen Garg. The government is not taking proper action and we are unhappy with that,” he said.
Gogoi also slammed the BJP for starting the campaign titled “Moi Zubeen, Amiu Zubeen”, calling it an attempt to gain sympathy and divert attention from real issues. “From yesterday, the BJP has started a campaign saying ‘Moi Zubeen, Amiu Zubeen’. What kind of strategy is this? If the thieves of the world start calling themselves Zubeen’s fans and supporters, should we agree with them? Impossible,” he said.
The MLA further said that Zubeen Garg himself had asked Himanta Biswa Sarma not to use his name for politics. “Zubeen da had clearly told Himanta Biswa Sarma not to do politics. He also said he doesn’t care for Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma. Zubeen da himself said these two are bad men,” Gogoi claimed.
He added that the people of Assam were deeply hurt and emotional after Zubeen’s death, and that the government should have shown sensitivity instead of turning the situation into a political issue. “The people of Assam are mourning Zubeen da. The government should take responsible steps, not play games. We will not allow anyone to misuse Zubeen’s name for politics,” Gogoi said.
Akhil Gogoi also said that Sunday’s rally would reflect the public mood. “Thousands of people will come. From there, we will tell the government that it has failed to give justice. We will demand proper investigation and truth. The people of Assam are losing trust in this government,” he said.
